According to Sky News there was a lot of outrage when phone sex operator jobs being listed as available work in job centers in England. The adult entertainment industry won the right to advertise in job centers in 2003. Phone sex is rightly considered adult entertainment. Job centers advertise jobs, this particular company, Faceclick, had jobs available. The job center made the listings available as they are required to do so by law. They made both male and female job seekers aware of the opening. So far so good?
Guess not. The usual cries of Trouble in River City arose. It’s a “gateway job” to prostitution! How awful that we should be exposed to this in a public place! Our young people shouldn’t be forced to take these kinds of jobs!!!
As far as I know, no one is being forced to take the job, just being made aware that it exists. If all the questions about where to apply for PSO jobs that I see posted on industry boards are any indication, I bet a lot of women are taking down that information and the job openings are now filled!
If being exposed to an alternate means of employment in the adult industry is the worst horror young people (or any people for that matter) have to face; not hunger, death, disease, crime, cruelty, abuse, then I’d have to say they are pretty damn fortunate and have no right to judge how others earn a legitimate living.
